Week 2's Ordinary Guy Fight Diary

Fight Diary: Josh Borthwick (Advertising slob, fair weather sailor and general layabout)

Week 2

Weight – 84.4kg (Goal 78kg)

Height -  5”11 (180cm)

Waist – 36inches (Goal 32 inches)

Tomorrow is the first key milestone before the fight. I need to do a bit of ring work under the watchful eyes of one of the fight officials so they can match me up with a suitable opponent. Logic suggests I should work hard to make myself as least useful as possible (cue closed eyes and wild swings), but I’m sure my competitive instincts will kick in and I’ll give it a decent shot (cue closed eyes and… J)

I’ve read the full (diet component) extract of the Four Hour Body and realised I wasn’t getting enough calories over the last couple of weeks. So I’m doubling up on beans and legumes this week. Today’s breakfast looked like this:

It looks rougher than it is and consists of scrambled egg whites (with one whole egg), brown lentils, raw shredded cabbage and a healthy dose of Himalayan salt and some pepper! I’ve discovered that Mexicali Fresh is a slow carber’s fast-food friend. You can go naked (sans white carbs – I wouldn’t recommend pant-less) and double up on the beans, while staying religiously within the confines of the diet.

I’ve lost around 1kg and an inch of belly-fat since last week. I’m currently sitting around 30% body fat and need to get to about 10% if I want to cut up some abs and enough muscle to impress my opponent on the 30th. So there’s still plenty of work to do. I did wonder past the mirror yesterday and noticed what I think might be an ab poking out from the belly fat:

You be the judge!

Training’s largely been calisthenics, bag work and sparring, but I’m hitting sprints on Wednesday and Danny mentioned throwing up in the mouth – so that can’t be good… Stay tuned for next week’s update. I’ll grab some footage of the ring sparring for opponent selection and any other tid-bits I come across.

Chur for now,

Josh “The Bear” Borthwick
