Let's face it, for many of us, being in good shape is not one of our top priorities, and this is not a good thing. Sure, we may be having loads of fun now, eating whatever we want, smoking, drinking, partying until all hours of the night, not exercising and not eating the proper foods. Some people can even get away with a lifestyle such as this for a number of years, but no matter who you are, and no matter how great your metabolism is, you are going to get older, and eventually your lifestyle is going to be your downfall. It is important that you start taking better care of yourself if you want to live a long and healthy life. After all, it is true that your body is a temple, and as you only get one body, it is a pretty good idea to take the best possible care of it. If you are really living an unhealthy lifestyle, it is going to take a little bit of adjustment to your lifestyle changes, but as long as you have a little bit of patience and give these changes a chance, you will start to notice changes for the better in your health. If you are a total couch potato, there are going to be a lot of lifestyle changes you need to make. Of course, you can do it gradually. Some of the steps you can take to change your lifestyle and get yourself into better health include:

- Start eating right - This is probably one of, if not the, first lifestyle changes you should make. When you are not eating healthily, you are at risk of developing a number of health problems. One of these problems is obesity, which affects millions of Americans each and every day. When you are eating healthily, you will see that you will begin to lose weight, and because your healthy eating is a lifestyle and not a temporary diet, the weight you lose is going to stay lost.

- Start exercising - This goes hand in hand with following a healthy diet. It is very important that we all get a certain amount of exercise every day for a number of reasons. For one thing, without exercise, our muscles are just not going to work right, and they will become nearly useless. You need to figure out how much exercise you need to be getting. Your physician may be able to help you with this, as well as to help you plan a diet that is nutritious. If you are not used to exercising, it is a good idea to start out slowly and not to try and do too much at once, or you may risk hurting yourself.

Now, this doesn't mean that you can't drink at all. Actually, some say that it is pretty healthy to have a glass of wine or beer every day. The trick is not to over-indulge. This is what causes the health problems. You can go out and have a couple of drinks with friends, but know where to draw the line for your good health. Quitting both smoking and drinking are some of the best ways to start getting healthy quickly.
