Music Review: The Bellrays - Hard, Sweet And Sticky

If you missed the recent Bellrays gig I bet you’re feeling pretty sorry for yourself. The rockin’ beats, the fantastic chemistry, the dusky goddess in a skin-tight dress… what a night!  But don’t beat yourself up too bad – get yourself a copy of their latest album Hard, Sweet And Sticky instead! Crank it up, sink some tequila, close your eyes and you’ll be transported to a magical place where soul, funk, rock and jazz collide. Sorry Tina Turner – since you went all MOR on us there’s been a soul/rock vacuum waiting to be filled and Bellrays singer Lisa Kekaula has jumped right in there, belting out massive catchy tunes such as the party-starting anthem ‘Psychotic Hate Man’, and showing us her sensitive side with the velvet tones of ‘Footprints On Water’. Okay so you might not be in amongst the hip cats’ pheromones in the groove pit, but this disc is the next best thing.
