Scream Aim Fire - Bullet For My Valentine

I distinctly remember walking into a record store in Melbourne in 2006 to listen to Bullet For My Valentine’s first album The Poison after reading rave reviews. After a few tracks I handed it right back and the shop attendant commented “kinda like everything else right?”. I agreed, and that assessment is the same for their new release Scream Aim Fire. The musicianship is excellent, the recording great, but it’s all been done before. If you have heard Iron Maiden, Soil Work or Atreyu you have basically heard Bullet For My Valentine, albeit you can hear a hint of Matthew Tuck’s, the vocalist, welsh accent from time to time. Wow! The album’s not bad, it’s just not that inventive or exciting. Maybe if you are 12 to15 and have never heard a metal band before these guys might be the shit, but for me, it’s a bit of a yawn.
